PHILIPPINE freight forwarders need not worry because there would definitely be a division under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to accredit them despite upcoming changes in the department.

The department made the assurance amid reports the Philippine Shippers’ Bureau (PSB) may soon be abolished and its functions assumed by a new division.

“Accreditation will continue as a function under a new bureau – Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau, particularly the accreditation division, where some of the PSB staff handling this function will move to,” DTI Undersecretary Zenaida Cuison-Maglaya said in a recent text message to PortCalls.

However, the exact time and name of the division was not identified.

A PortCalls source said freight forwarders will be notified accordingly before changes are implemented and that until then, the PSB will remain in “status quo” and still exercise its function of accrediting freight forwarders.

PortCalls earlier reported the division will be named Supply Chain and Logistics Management Division. ––Roumina M. Pablo
