The 211-bed COVID-19 treatment facility in Pier 15 was opened on April 21.

The converted facility is designed to accommodate returning Overseas Filipino Workers and seafarers who need to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

The cubicles are distributed in different zones to accommodate patients with mild, advanced and severe infections.

Pier 15 is within the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal.

The airconditioned facility has portable toilets, cargo containers for showers, and open-air dining facilities. Nurses’ stations will also be set up outside, with plastic barrier views of the inside to minimize use of personal protective equipment.

Retrofitting of the terminal located within the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal began on April 13.

The conversion of the treatment facility was made possible through a P100-million donation from the Lopez Group of Companies, and with assistance from 2GO and Asian Terminals Inc, operator of the terminal.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana led the facility’s commissioning ceremony.
