The cruise ship port in Jubang port in Dapa, Surigao del Norte is the first dedicated cruise terminal that PPA has completed.
Another dedicated cruise ship port will be located in Alegria, Aklan. The project has just started (1% completion).
Santiago said the port is intended to serve Boracay but is also located in mainland Aklan so that cruise ship passengers will also have the opportunity to explore not just Boracay, but also other areas in Aklan and other nearby islands.
For next year, PPA will also commence the construction of another dedicated cruise terminal in Puerto Galera, and will further elevate Surigao port as water level in the area has been rising.
Moreover, PPA will construct a new passenger terminal building at Surigao port since the current building can only accommodate 80-100 passengers when normal passenger traffic for every vessel is around 500.
For next year, Santiago said PPA is looking at P19.55 billion total expenses, including depreciation. Of this, P7.5-l billion to P8 billion is for infrastructure and goods.
He said PPA is confident of meeting its target revenue of P26.78 billion for 2024, and is looking at P28.11 billion for next year. – Roumina Pablo
