International air cargo and mail traffic in the Philippines grew 8.1% to 107.33 million kilograms in the first quarter of the year from 99.28 million kg in the same period last year, according to data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
Of the total, incoming air cargo and mail traffic handled by 39 passenger and cargo airlines with services in the Philippines accounted for a 56.3% share or 60.477 million kg, up 18% from 51.293 million kg in the first quarter of 2024.
Outgoing traffic, on the other hand, dropped 2.4% to 46.853 million kg from 47.986 million kg.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines had the biggest share for the period with 17.414 million kg or 16.2% of the total.
It was followed by another local carrier, Cebu Pacific Air, with 15.027 million kg or 14% of the total.
Taiwanese carrier EVA Air placed third with a 6% share or 6.388 million kg, while Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific was fourth with 5.470 million kg or 5.1% share.
Shipping and logistics service provider United Parcel Service (UPS) ranked fifth with 5.396 million kg while cargo airline Air Hong Kong shared 5.251 million kg in sixth place.
United Arab Emirates flag carrier Emirates flew 5.2 million kg, placing seventh, followed by transportation, e-commerce, and business services provider FedEx with 4.843 million kg.
In ninth place was flag carrier Singapore Airlines with 4.841 million while rounding off the top 10 was Chinese air cargo carrier YTO Cargo Airlines with 3.919 million kg.
