Regional Container Lines (RCL) recently held a naming ceremony for two new vessels, Ussama Bhum and Varanya Bhum at the Hiroshima Shipyard in Japan.

Each vessel has a capacity of 12,000 twenty-equivalent units and constructed by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.

In a statement, RCL said the ships exemplify the company’s “commitment in enhancing its service quality and operational efficiency across global trade routes.”

Equipped with the latest advancements in maritime technology, the two ships reflect RCL’s dedication to sustainable and efficient shipping practices, the statement said.

Ussama Bhum means “Land of Genial,” while Varanba Bhum stands for “Land of Brilliant.”

Of the two, Usamma Bhum has gone on its first voyage entering service on RCL’s Middle East route. Varanya Bhum is expected to be delivered by December.

Guests of honor at the ceremony were Prasarn Trairatvorakul, Independent Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee at Siam Cement Group Co. Ltd., and Sarah Sharaf, Vice President of the Sharaf Group (Dubai).

The ceremony was led by Dr Jamlong Atikul, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RCL, who cited the importance of the new additions to the company’s fleet.

“The naming of Ussama Bhum and Varanya Bhum represents not just the growth of our fleet but also the ongoing evolution of our services,” he said, adding that “These vessels will strengthen our capabilities, ensuring that we continue to meet the demands of our global clientele with the utmost efficiency and sustainability.”
