Roque named acting Trade secretary

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has appointed trade undersecretary Ma. Cristina Roque as acting secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) following the resignation of Alfredo Pascual.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) in a statement on August 2 said Marcos “noted Roque’s dedication and leadership in the MSME (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises) sector make her an excellent choice for the position.”

“The President has expressed his gratitude to Secretary Pascual for his service and contributions to the department, as he looks forward to a seamless transition under Acting Secretary Roque’s leadership,” PCO added.

PCO on July 31 announced Pascual’s resignation as trade secretary effective August 2 as he returns to the private sector.

Roque is undersecretary of DTI’s MSME Development Group within DTI, executing various programs and initiatives focused on MSMEs. She oversees various offices, including the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Bureau of Marketing Development and Promotions, OTOP Program Management Office, and Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Management Office. Additionally, she manages the operations of the Small Business Corporation and the Cooperative Development Authority.

Roque holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management Engineering, minor in Chemical Engineering, from De La Salle University. She completed her secondary education at De La Salle Santiago Zobel in Alabang and her primary education at Colegio de San Agustin – Makati and De La Salle Santiago Zobel.

She was founder and chief executive officer of clothing and beauty services firm Kamiseta Group of Companies.
