SBMA honors partners in 1st Green Anchor Awards

  • The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, through its inaugural Green Anchor Awards, recognized its partners in the ports, shipping, and logistics sectors
  • The awards honored port users, government agencies, and locators within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and other freeport zones whose contributions in trade facilitation and sustainability programs have made an impact on Subic’s shipping and logistics sector
  • SBMA chairman and administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño said the awards ceremony “marks our aspiration to build a green port city that is not only competitive and resilient, but also responsible — a port that anchors growth to sustainability, and progress to protection of our shared natural resources”
  • There were three categories recognizing trade volumes (Emerald Award), sustainability/green initiatives (Sustainability Award), and private sector and government partners (Partners in Progress)

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) gave recognition to its partners in the ports, shipping, and logistics sectors for their contributions in developing trade and sustainability initiatives in Subic.

The inaugural Green Anchor Awards held on November 24 honored port users, government agencies, and locators within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and other freeport zones whose contributions in trade facilitation and sustainability programs have made an impact on the freeport’s shipping and logistics sector.

SBMA senior deputy administrator for operations Ronnie Yambao, in a speech during the event, said this is the first recognition platform in the country  —initiated by a government-owned and controlled corporation — that celebrates champions in advancing trade and sustainability initiatives in support of SBMA’s vision of a Green Port City.

The awards were presented under three categories:

  • Emerald Award – recognizing excellence in trade volume
  • Sustainability Award – honoring outstanding green initiatives
  • Partners in Progress – recognizing five government agencies and trade associations that have significantly contributed to SBMA’s growth, increased trade volume, and supported progress throughout the Freeport

Emerald Awardees, whose operations have made a significant impact through the generation of cargo volume and the reliable delivery of essential goods, were the following:

  • San Miguel Foods Corp. (importer of ingredients for animal feeds)
  • FLS Group Philippines (importer of solar panel)
  • Worldwide Logistics Group, Philippines (importer of solar panel)
  • Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc. (importer of rubber raw materials)
  • Nestle Philippines Inc. (importer of packed food products)
  • Juken Sangyo Philippines Corp. (importer of logs/veneer lumber)
  • Philippine Resins Industries Inc. (importer of resins)
  • HLD Clark Steel Pipe Company Inc. (exporter of steel pipes)
  • Datian Subic Shoes Inc. (importer of cow suede leather)
  • Ecossential Foods Corp. (importer of packed foods products/coffee)
  • Maersk Lines Ltd.
  • Evergreen Lines
  • SITC Container Lines
  • Mediterranean Shipping Co.
  • CMA-CGM Lines

The Sustainability Awards were conferred to the following organisations for implementing effective programs, strategies, and CSR activities that promote sustainable practices:

  • Subic Bay Freeport Grains Terminal Services Inc.
  • Philippine Coastal Storage and Pipeline Corp.
  • Pure Petroleum Corp.
  • Subic Bay International Terminals Corp.- ICTSI Subic Inc.
  • United Auctioneers Inc.

SBMA’s private sector and government partners and allies whose collaboration has been instrumental in shaping the Subic Bay Port community that were given the Partners in Progress award were the following:

  • Association of International Shipping Lines Inc.
  • Alliance of Concerned Truck Owners and Organization
  • Philippine Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (PCCBI), Subic-Clark Chapter
  • Bureau of Customs
  • Bureau of Internal Revenue

SBMA chairman and administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño, in his opening speech during the event, said the awards ceremony “marks our aspiration to build a green port city that is not only competitive and resilient, but also responsible—a port that anchors growth to sustainability, and progress to protection of our shared natural resources.”

SBMA envisions Subic as a “Green Port City” and the port as a transshipment hub for electric vehicles and solar panels. It also aims to become the first carbon-neutral economic zone in the Philippines.

He noted that SBMA in recent years has taken significant steps to align port modernization with global sustainability standards by strengthening its environmental and vessel monitoring systems, raising compliance requirements, investing in cleaner technologies, and supporting innovative solutions from port users.

“But we know that government efforts alone are not enough. Sustainability is collaborative work—shared by locators, port users, partner agencies, communities, and every stakeholder who believes in a greener, more resilient Subic Bay,” Aliño said, noting that this is why the awards ceremony is “so meaningful.”

“The world is moving toward greener value chains, cleaner shipping, circular waste practices, and low-emission operations. Ports that lead in sustainability will be the ones most competitive in the future,” Aliño added.–Roumina Pablo
