The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has approved a resolution allowing senior citizens and persons with disability (PWD) in the Philippines to avail of a 20% discount when booking domestic flights online.

Before the resolution, the discount only applied to in-person transactions.

Apart from passenger details, the transaction will require date of birth and the ID number specified in the senior citizen or PWD card.

Before the accomplishment of the transaction, a breakdown and a summary of the total fee shall be known to the senior citizen or the PWD. The confirmation of the passenger’s seat reservation must also indicate the given discount so as to be verified properly at the check-in counter, where the passenger must present necessary identification.

The resolution takes effect 15 days after it is published in a general publication. CAB will give airlines two months to develop and run a virtual system on their website, which would enable the processing of the discount.

The discount excludes taxes and other domestic air travel fees and charges, and will not be applicable to tickets acquired through indirect or external sales promotions such as contests, games, and other similar competitions. – Aubrey Joyce Bajo
