The Shipowners’ Club, a London-based mutual shipping insurer for smaller and more specialized vessels, is investing more resources in Singapore to boost its expansion efforts in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company is beefing up its team of underwriters and claims handlers at its Singapore branch to enhance customer service, develop new products, and simplify existing cover to meet market needs.

Moving from the London headquarters to Singapore in August is Robert Hunt. Hunt, who has worked in the protection and indemnity market for many years, first as a broker and then as an underwriter at Shipowners for the last seven years, has been responsible for undertaking the company’s Australasian and Far Eastern members for some years, and will continue to serve these accounts from Shipowners’ Asian base.

Joining Shipowners after five years with Standard Asia is Singaporean Dolf Ng, who will help bolster the branch’s underwriting capacity and develop the Asia-Pacific business.

The Singapore branch has also strengthened its claims department with the appointment of two claims handlers earlier this year. Shirley Ng had experience both as an insurance broker and as a claims manager at a freight forwarding company in Singapore. Rosli Bin Samat has a wealth of marine- and cargo-related experience.
