SIA Engineering (Philippines) Corp. (SIAEP), a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider, will set up shop at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) starting September.

A subsidiary of SIA Engineering Co. Ltd. (SIAEC) , one of Asia Pacific’s largest MRO providers and majority-owned by the Singapore Airlines Group, SIAEP already operates in Clark. Its entry in NAIA is seen to benefit not only local carriers, but the broader aviation industry as it opens up more opportunities for skills development, knowledge transfer, and jobs in aircraft maintenance, airport operator New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said in a statement.

NNIC said the presence of SIAEP will help provide faster aircraft turnaround and improved technical support, benefitting both airlines and passengers.

Other major MRO companies have also expressed interest in establishing a presence at NAIA, NNIC added.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines is currently NAIA’s biggest MRO operator.

NNIC chief executive officer Ramon Ang said the entry of SIAEP “is a big boost for NAIA and for Philippine aviation. We welcome SIAEP and look forward to working closely with them to improve support for airlines operating here.” It is “part of our broader push to raise NAIA’s standards and make it a better, more reliable gateway not only for travelers, but for the aviation industry as a whole,” he added.
