  • Motorists travelling through Luzon’s expressways can now use just one radio frequency identification (RFID) account with the launch of the “One RFID, All Tollways” project today (Oct 21)
  • With tollways operated by different concessionaires, motorists previously needed two accounts
  • Under the new system, those with an Autosweep and Easytrip account now have the option to just use one account

Motorists traveling through Luzon’s expressways can now use just one radio frequency identification (RFID) account with the launch today (October 21) of the Toll Collection System Interoperability Project or “One RFID, All Tollways”.

With tollways operated by different concessionaires, motorists previously needed two accounts (Autosweep and Easytrip) to traverse the different expressways. One RFID provides motorists who regularly use multiple toll expressways the option to use just one account.

There are currently 12 expressways in Luzon operated by three concessionaires — San Miguel Corp., Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., and Prime Asset Ventures, Inc. — with two RFID service providers (Autosweep and Easytrip).

Registration to ONE RFID is free and optional.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., in a speech during the launch on October 21, said ONE RFID provides convenience and efficiency, especially for those who use multiple expressways.

“This is free, and most importantly, this is optional,” Marcos said in Filipino, noting that toll road users can decide whether to keep two accounts of register for the single system.

Motorists can use the One RFID, All Tollways in three steps:

  • Opt-in online and choose your preferred RFID service provider.
  • Remove the unchosen RFID sticker at the authorized customer service centers.
  • Load up your chosen RFID account.

ONE RFID is under the toll collection interoperability project launched in 2017 after toll road operators signed a memorandum of agreement agreeing to tweak their toll collection systems to make them interoperable and integrated.

Testing cycles for the toll collection interoperability began in December 2023.

The use of RFID stickers for cashless toll collection is part of phase one of the toll collection interoperability project, and is part of the campaign of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Toll Regulatory Board to promote contactless and cashless toll transactions in tollway facilities.

DOTr in August 2020 issued Department Order 2020-012, mandating toll road concession holders to implement a cashless or contactless toll collection system to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and speed up traffic flow at the facilities, using as legal basis Republic Act No. 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and RA No. 8792 or the Electronic Commerce Act, respectively.

A subsequent addendum to the order issued in January 2021 instituted a transition period to the full cashless transaction program, with cash-accepting lanes maintained at toll plazas and exits.
