The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized one container of smuggled cigarettes worth about P8 million in Mindanao Container Terminal, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental on January 6, 2022.

In a statement, BOC said the consignee failed to lodge a goods declaration but based on the inward manifest, the shipment supposedly contained used furniture from China and was consigned to a certain Ceri Rey Viola. But during the physical examination on January 6, the shipment was found to contain cigarettes branded as “Titan.”

The seizure followed information relayed by the Intelligence Group on December 26, 2021 from a source and acted upon by the BOC-Cagayan De Oro Field Station.

BOC-Cagayan De Oro district collector Elvira Cruz immediately issued a pre-lodgment control order against the subject shipment for possible violation of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

The consignee will also face charges for the violation of the CMTA.
