Domestic carriers Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp. (PSACC) and 2GO Group, Inc. are providing free pier-to-pier freight services for donations and relief goods for those affected by the recent onslaught of Typhoon Tino in the Visayas.

PSACC, in an advisory on November 6, said it will accept relief goods, including non-perishable food, bottled water, hygiene kits, blankets, clothing, and other essentials, which can be dropped off at its container yard in Tondo, Manila from November 7-15.

In a separate advisory, 2GO, through its Malasakit Program, is opening its donation channel at Pier 4, Tondo, Manila from November 5-15. The Manila drop-off site will be at its forwarding office in Manila Harbour Center, while pick-up points include its forwarding offices in Mandaue, Cebu, and Bredco Pier 2 Reclamation Area in Bacolod.

Last month, PSACC and 2GO along with other members of the Philippine Liner Shipping Association (PLSA) also offered free freight pier-to-pier transport of relief goods for families affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu on September 30.

PLSA members also offered similar free pier-to-pier transport of relief goods during previous calamities, such as when typhoon Odette hammered Visayas, Mindanao, and some parts of Luzon in 2021 and in 2013 after the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda in central Philippines.

On the air side, the Civil Aeronautics Board on November 5 requested airlines to support humanitarian relief operations by allocating available cargo space for the free transport of relief goods to affected areas, subject to safety, operational limitations, and airline procedure, to help speed up the delivery of critical aid and ease the hardship of affected communities.

Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi), the 20th typhoon to hit the country this year, swept through southern and central parts of the Philippines from November 2 to 5, dumping unprecedented rains that triggered massive flooding and landslides.

As of November 7, the government has reported at least 188 dead, almost 100 injured, and 135 still reported missing.
