Transportation Secretary Vivencio Dizon ordered all incumbent undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, and directors to submit their unqualified courtesy resignations by Wednesday (Feb 26).
The directive, issued through a Department of Transportation memorandum dated Feb. 24, states that the measure aims to give Dizon a “free hand” to execute the mandate entrusted to him by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Dizon replaced Jaime Bautista who resigned for health reasons.
“In the exigency of service, and in order to give the undersigned a free hand to perform the mandate given to him by the President, all incumbent Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, and Directors of this Department are hereby directed to tender their unqualified courtesy resignations, not later than 26 February 2025,” the memorandum read.
Despite submitting their resignations, affected officials have been instructed to continue reporting for work and fulfilling their duties unless otherwise directed by the Secretary. The memorandum emphasized that any changes would be subject to applicable civil service laws and regulations.
Transportation Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Sarmiento has already resigned last week.
