Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has categorically denied allegations of corruption and intends to take legal action against those tarnishing his reputation.
In a video statement released on October 11, Bautista expressed dismay over the unfounded accusations against him. He denied any involvement in corrupt or inappropriate activities, saying, “Please allow me to categorically say that I never accepted any money or favor since assuming the post of transportation secretary.”
The statement followed allegations of Jeffrey Tumbado, former executive assistant to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III, of corruption in the LTFRB, especially concerning the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program. Tumbado also hinted at potential involvement of other officials within Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Malacañang.
LTFRB is a line agency of the DOTr.
Tumbado’s statement prompted President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to suspend Guadiz on October 9.

Bautista also on October 9 said an investigation into the allegations was ongoing, and that a notice to explain was issued to Guadiz.
The transport chief maintained the DOTr does not condone corruption within the department and its line agencies to ensure honest governance among its ranks.
Marcos appointed Guadiz LTFRB chair in December 2022. LTFRB board member Atty. Mercy Jane Paras-Leynes has taken over Guadiz’s post until October 9, 2024.
