Atlanta-headquartered United Parcel Service (UPS) has released its new rates for 2013, which include an average net increase of 4.5 percent on all air and U.S.-origin international services, and 4.9 percent on ground services. The new pricing takes effect from December 31, 2012.

The rate increase for air and international services is based on a 6.5 percent average increase in the base rate, less a two percentage point reduction to the fuel surcharge table.

The rate increase for ground services is based on a 5.9 percent average increase in the base rate, less a one percentage point reduction to the fuel surcharge table.

In addition, the next day, second day, and third day freight rates for shipments within and between the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico will increase by 4.9 percent.

On Dec. 31, when the new rates take effect, customers can download the 2013 guide, a company statement said.
