Atlanta-based United Parcel Service (UPS) has launched a new worldwide express airfreight service for heavy shipments to complement its express airfreight package business.

The new UPS Worldwide Express Freight offers day-definite, door-to-door express shipping for pallets over 150 pounds from 37 origins to 41 destination countries and territories.

The service is an extension of the company’s express package portfolio and offers customers “a seamless experience between shipping express package and express freight,” the U.S. delivery services giant said in a January 2, 2013 press release.

It features overnight shipping from Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas to the United States, and two-day shipping from Asia-Pacific, the United States, and the Americas to Europe.

Like the express package service, the express freight service offers automated shipment preparation, online tracking, and notification technology. In addition, both express freight and package shipments are consolidated into one bill.

The service is ideal for urgent, time-sensitive, and heavyweight shipments, especially those from the industrial manufacturing, automotive, high-tech, retail, and healthcare segments, said Ed Buckley, UPS president of marketing.
