Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has designated Land Transportation Office (LTO) executive director Romeo Vera Cruz as officer-in-charge of the agency.

Vera Cruz will “perform and discharge the functions and responsibilities” of the position until July 31 or until a replacement has been appointed or designated, according to Department of Transportation Special Order No. 2022-130 dated July 1.

Vera Cruz replaces Edgar Galvante, who was appointed to the position in 2016.

DOTr said in a statement that Vera Cruz’s designation was pursuant to the Office of the President’s Memorandum Circular No. 1, which declared vacant various government positions, including those held by presidential appointees whose tenure was co-terminus with the previous administration.

Under the memorandum, vacancies will be filled by the next-in-rank and most senior official as OIC.
