Zim Integrated Shipping Services has announced a general rate increase (GRI) in the Asia-South America East Coast trade effective August 1, 2011.

The Israel-based carrier said the GRI is $600 for all cargo per 20-foot container and $1,200 for all cargo per 40-foot container.

In a statement, Zim, one of the world’s biggest container-shipping companies, said the rate increase was necessary “in view of market conditions and current unsustainable rate levels.”
