The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) intercepted  on December 5 parcels containing P12.9 million worth of illegal drugs.

Seized were 7,791 grams of kush and 1,229 ecstasy tablets from various countries and addressed to multiple recipients in the Philippines. The shipments were flagged for further inspection based on irregularities detected during standard screening procedures.

The operation was conducted with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group.

The confiscated drugs were immediately turned over to PDEA, which is now conducting further investigations. Legal action is being pursued under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

“This successful operation underscores the Bureau’s efforts in fortifying border security and curbing the smuggling of illegal drugs,” Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said in a statement highlighting the agency’s continued vigilance in securing borders and preventing smuggling activities.

BOC NAIA District Collector Atty. Yasmin Mapa in a statement reaffirmed BOC-NAIA’s dedication to its “mission to intercept contraband,” ensure public safety, and “uphold the safety and well-being of our nation.”

Much earlier in October, BOC-NAIA seized P42 million worth of shabu (local name of methamphetamine hydrochloride) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 from a South African national.

A bigger haul was made in late September when the agency intercepted P111.11 million worth of shabu at the DHL cargo warehouse in Pasay. The illegal drugs were hidden within wax used in five handmade paintings.
