The Bureau of Customs (BOC) will temporarily move its head office to the new One Pacific by the Bay building along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City.
Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno announced the relocation during the 6th Customs Industry Consultative and Advisory Council (CICAC) general assembly and 12th Central CICAC meeting on August 6.
He said the transfer will take place in the coming months and is expected to last three to four years while a new permanent office building for the agency is designed and constructed.
The move underscores BOC’s ongoing modernization efforts and is intended to provide a more suitable working environment as the agency prepares for long-term infrastructure development.
A 172.34-square meter office space will be designated as the headquarters of CICAC, a consultative body with industry groups to enlist their support and active participation in advancing the reform agenda of the bureau. It also aims to help in addressing existing and potential issues related to Customs and industry matters.
The Office of the Commissioner building in Manila South Harbor that will be vacated will then be occupied by BOC-Port of Manila (POM) officials and employees, who are currently using a temporary facility following the fire in the POM building in 2019.
Nepomuceno said there are two proposals for the location of the new BOC building, one of which is an area beside the Philippine Ports Authority head office along Bonifacio Drive, South Harbor.
In 2025, then Customs commissioner Bienvenido Rubio also unveiled plans to construct a new main office building for BOC in Manila as “part of the agency’s image building initiative and to improve working conditions for employees and stakeholders.”— Roumina Pablo
