Cathay Cargo has been named Cargo Operator of the Year at Air Transport World’s (ATW) 2027 Airline Industry Achievement Awards, marking the fourth time it has received the accolade since 2023.
The award – which Cathay Cargo also received for 2023, 2025, and 2026 – recognizes the carrier’s focus on customer service, operational excellence, technology investment and sustainability initiatives.
“Being named Cargo Operator of the Year for the fourth time since 2023 is a meaningful recognition of the commitment, expertise and can-do spirit across Cathay Cargo. I would like to thank every member of our team for bringing our ‘We Know How’ brand promise to life every day, and our customers and partners for their continued trust and support,” Cathay director for cargo Dominic Perret said in a statement.
“As the world’s number one cargo operator at the world’s busiest cargo airport, we remain committed to continuing to grow our business and reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a world-leading international aviation hub. We are investing in our fleet, digital capabilities and network to create more choice, control and connectivity for our customers,” added Perret.
The Cathay Group has committed about HK$150 billion (US$19.12 billion) to investments in its fleet, cabin and lounge products, and digital innovation.
As part of its fleet expansion, Cathay Cargo has ordered eight Airbus A350F freighters, which will expand and modernize its existing freighter fleet of 20 Boeing 747Fs.

Cathay Cargo is also adding a leased Airbus A330 converted freighter to its operations. Air Hong Kong, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cathay Group, will operate the aircraft primarily on freighter services for Cathay Cargo to Mainland China and other regional destinations.

The carrier is also investing in digital tools to improve the cargo customer experience. Its Cathay Cargo Digital Hub consolidates booking, shipment management and tracking capabilities on a single platform, while tools such as Manage Booking provide customers with greater visibility, flexibility and control throughout the shipment journey.

Sustainability remains another focus of Cathay Cargo’s operations through Cathay’s Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme, which works with freight forwarders and cargo customers to increase SAF adoption across its global network.
In 2025, the program utilized 17,400 tonnes of SAF, reducing lifecycle carbon emissions by 54,600 tonnes of CO2e, with support from 17 global partners.
