Cheng Lie Navigation Co., Ltd.’s (CNC) new dedicated reefer service for Mindanao ports recently made its maiden call at Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) on March 7.
The new SP8 (Singapore–Philippines–Singapore) service is “designed specifically to meet the growing demand for reliable reefer shipments from the Mindanao ports of Davao and General Santos,” according to the intra-Asia short sea specialist of the CMA CGM Group.
CNC’s MV Contship Way made its maiden call to DICT in Panabo, Davao del Sur on March 7. The weekly service has a port rotation of Singapore-Davao-General Santos-Singapore.
CNC said SP8 specializes in the transport of chilled and sensitive commodities such as bananas, pineapples, and other perishable goods.
The service is being operated with two geared vessels equipped with cargo handling equipment, allowing “greater flexibility in deployment and reliable schedules,” CNC added.
Both Contship Way and VIMC Diamond have a nominal capacity of 1,114 twenty-foot equivalent units; the former has 220 reefer plugs and the latter 110.
Aside from SP8, CNC also has eight other services calling other Philippines ports, including in Batangas, Cebu, Manila, Subic, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro.
