The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have signed a memorandum of agreement aimed at strengthening the agriculture and fisheries export sector during the National Export Congress on December 5 at Conrad Manila.

The partnership is designed to improve market access, strengthen capacity-building efforts, and ensure compliance with export regulations.

It aims to enhance the export capacity of local agribusinesses with such initiatives as the development of export-oriented training programs for agribusiness enterprises; simplified administrative processes to reduce red tape; and the promotion of Philippine products through trade fairs and investment missions.

“This joint initiative marks a pivotal step in transforming the Philippine agriculture sector into a dynamic, globally competitive industry, poised to drive economic growth and sustainable development,” DTI said in a statement.

The collaboration is designed to address long-standing challenges in the sector, such as low productivity, inefficiencies in the value chain, and high production costs, DTI added.

The trade department said the MOA is aligned with objectives outlined in the Philippine Development Plan and the Philippine Export Development Plan 2023-2028, emphasizing sustainable agricultural growth and improved global competitiveness.
