Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) has appointed Garrick Thompson as the new managing director for the Philippines. Thompson takes over following the retirement of Maribeth Espinosa.

He takes the helm of a team of over 1,300 employees, with a focus on driving operational excellence, enhancing customer experience, and supporting Philippine businesses to expand their global reach through cross-border trade, the global express transportation company said in a statement.

He will also oversee the Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center, which manages customs clearance, trade compliance, and critical cargo documentation across Asia Pacific, the United States, Canada, and Europe.

A FedEx veteran with nearly two decades of experience across the company, Thompson returns to the Philippines after serving as managing director of FedEx Indonesia for over five years. Since joining the company in New Zealand in 2007, he has held key leadership roles across human resources, operations, and sales. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management studies, majoring in Strategic Management and Human Resources from the University of Waikato.

Among his notable achievements were driving significant revenue growth and expanding the company’s customer base as senior sales manager for FedEx Philippines. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Five Star Award, the company’s highest honor, recognizing exceptional leadership, business impact, and commitment to teamwork.

With over 40 years of commitment to the Philippines, FedEx plays a vital role in supporting trade and e-commerce growth, connecting businesses of all sizes to customers and opportunities across more than 220 countries and territories through its integrated transportation and logistics network.

As managing director, Thompson will oversee the company’s continued investments in the Philippines, including the expansion of its Clark facility, a key transshipment gateway that strengthens regional connectivity and supports the company’s broader Southeast Asia growth strategy.

FedEx last May broke ground for the facility, which once completed will cover more than 78,000 square meters, featuring upgraded handling systems and operational capabilities to improve shipment reliability and service flexibility.
