Kalmar has concluded an agreement with International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) to supply a total of 12 hybrid straddle carriers for the new South Luzon Container Terminal (SLCT), located within Bauan International Port in Batangas.
The order, booked in Kalmar’s third-quarter 2026 order intake, also includes a straddle carrier simulator for training new drivers and upskilling existing ones, along with MyKalmar INSIGHT coverage across all machines. Delivery of the full fleet is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2027, Kalmar said in a statement.

Daniel Ho, Kalmar’s vice president for GTO key account management, said the order marks the first delivery of Kalmar straddle carriers to a terminal in the Philippines. “Kalmar and ICTSI have a long and distinguished history of close collaboration at a number of terminals around the world. We are proud to be able to deliver the very first Kalmar straddle carriers to a terminal in the Philippines and grateful for the trust the ICTSI have placed in our proven hybrid technology,” he said.
The $800-million SLCT, formerly known as the Luzon International Container Terminal, has been years in the making. ICTSI first announced the Bauan, Batangas investment in 2023, and construction of the first phase broke ground in September 2025 following the company’s purchase of a 27-hectare property adjacent to its existing terminal site. ICTSI formally launched full-scale construction in March 2026, with Phase 1 works — including a 425-meter quay built for super post-Panamax quay cranes — scheduled to run from May to September 2027.
Once complete, SLCT is expected to add up to 2 million TEUs in annual capacity, positioning it as the Philippines’ second-largest container facility after ICTSI’s flagship Manila International Container Terminal. The terminal, located about 110 kilometers south of Manila, will feature up to 900 meters of quay, at least eight ship-to-shore gantry cranes, and a controlling depth of up to 18 meters to accommodate ultra-large container vessels. ICTSI has said the project is designed to bring container-handling capacity closer to the manufacturing and export hubs of the CALABARZON region, reducing logistics steps and shortening lead times for shippers in Southern Luzon.
Commercial operations at SLCT remain targeted for 2028, with equipment delivery and installation — including the newly ordered Kalmar straddle carriers — set for August 2027.
