Maintenance, repair, and overhaul services provider Lufthansa Technik Philippines, Inc. (LTP) has signed a lease contract agreement with New NAIA Corp. (NNIC) for its facility at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

LTP parent firm MacroAsia Corp., in a regulatory disclosure on May 13, said it was informed of the development on May 12 following almost two years of negotiations.

Philippine aviation support service provider MacroAsia holds 49% of LTP and the rest is owned by Hamburg-based Lufthansa Technik AG (51%).

According to an earlier financial disclosure, MacroAsia said the original lease of the MacroAsia Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) in NAIA, wherein LTP is the sole locator, ended in August 2025 and was subject to renewal for another 25 years with an expected increase in lease rates.

MSEZ operator MacroAsia Properties Development Corp. (MPDC) in May 2025 informed NNIC and NAIA regulator Manila International Airport Authority of its decision to renew the lease agreement for another 25 years.

MacroAsia said LTP and MPDC recognized higher rental expenses in their respective books effective September 2025. Rates in NAIA increased significantly in 2024 following the entry of private concessionaire NNIC.

Dropping line maintenance services

Relatedly, on May 14, LTP confirmed it will discontinue providing line maintenance services starting August 1, 2026 as it shifts its focus to base maintenance services and aircraft overhaul operations.

This, as long-time partner Philippine Airlines (PAL) decided to expand its internal maintenance capabilities by taking over all line maintenance activities for its fleet.

PAL Express (PALex) operations manager Jessie Peñaflor in a social media post on May 13 said, “PAL Express Aircraft Maintenance will assume responsibility for the line maintenance of the Philippine Airlines fleet in the Philippines.”

PAL will, however, remain a customer for base service maintenance.

LTP and PAL have been partners for over 25 years.

Last year, PALEx signed a long-term agreement with LTP regarding the supply of components for the airline’s entire Airbus A320 fleet. The service package includes component MRO, along with access to Lufthansa Technik’s global spare parts pool and a homebase stock at PALex’s premises in the Philippines.

MacroAsia said with the growing demand for maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, LTP is exploring expansion opportunities in Clark, Pampanga, as the MacroAsia ecozone in Manila is fully developed and space-constrained. This strategic move would allow LTP to accommodate increasing maintenance requirements beyond NAIA.
