In his speech during the live-streamed launching ceremony, Marcos said the opening of “UPS Clark International Air Hub is an important milestone in strengthening our country’s logistics network” as he cited the difficulties of efficiently moving goods, especially food and medicine, across an archipelago.
“We all know the importance of getting all the items that we need when we need it,” he said, “This is the role of logistics. For an archipelagic country such as the Philippines, efficient logistics is vital to economic development and the well-being of our people.”
Marcos acknowledged that high cost is one of the biggest challenges of the sector, noting that an average 27% of businesses’ sales go to logistics expenses, “one of the highest in southeast Asia.”

He said while his administration is rolling out infrastructure, transportation, and policy improvements, the private sector is indispensable to the growth of the logistics sector, both for domestic and international links.
“Strengthening our logistics network requires private sector investment to expand our capacity and our connection to the global market,” the president said.
“We deeply appreciate the UPS for recognizing the Philippines as a strategic investment destination as demonstrated by its longstanding presence in our country,” he added.
Marcos also noted that the new UPS facility is an important development for Clark in particular as it brings new opportunities for employment and business growth outside the capital, as well as for the larger Luzon Economic Corridor.
