The Mindanao Shipping Conference 2024 held at the dusitD2 Davao on September 6 drew a record attendance of more than 200 logistics stakeholders.

The fifth installment of the shipping conference, themed “Navigating Global Trade: Pathways to Sustainable Logistics”, gathered government and private sector experts to expound on initiatives that could help stakeholders survive the competitive logistics business.

Professional Regulatory Board for Customs Brokers chairman Samuel Bautista keynoted the conference, sharing the role of digital transformation and promoting sustainability in logistics.

National Economic and Development Authority Region 11 OIC-assistant regional director Rosendo Aya-Ay discussed Davao’s economic and trade performance and the Davao Regional Development Plan 2023-2028, which includes the program to make the Davao region the international logistics hub in Southern Philippines.

Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office-Davao port manager Analee Aguila updated participants on trade, ship, cargo, and passenger volumes at Mindanao ports, as well as PPA’s  infrastructure initiatives to fuel economic growth in the region.

Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) manager for business development Lemuel Calatrava shared updates on DICT’s operations and how the Panabo terminal is contributing to boosting the competitiveness of Mindanao container logistics.

Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice president for industry Jennifer Ellen Dumlao identified the private sector’s logistics challenges and suggested solutions.

Bureau of Customs-Port of Davao customs operations officer III/acting appraiser head-PCO Jalaine Indol discussed best practices and initiatives being undertaken by the collection district to ensure efficient and transparent customs operations. Indol likewise shared updates on customs policies, particularly new orders issued this year.

SGV & Co. (EY Philippines) Partner/Principal (Tax/Customs) Atty. Victor de Dios briefed participants on the latest tax updates.

Lastly, Philippine GBCB Management Corp. chief executive officer Christlamb Reae Vicente shared how his company supports trade facilitation and supply chain efficiency.
