The new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at the Port of Lucena is more than 90% complete, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. saying the government will continue expanding the port to support growing passenger and cargo traffic in the Calabarzon Region and nearby provinces.
Marcos inspected the new terminal on July 21 and said continued investments in the Port of Lucena are needed as demand for passenger and cargo services continues to increase.
“But of course, we will continue to develop. As I said, what my experience is whenever we build infrastructure, whatever we construct eventually gets filled. You might say it will be good for ten years, but the years pass quickly and it becomes full sooner than expected,” the President said during the inspection.
“But that’s good. Good for the commerce of the region. Good for Lucena. Good for Quezon. Good for all of the surrounding ports also,” he added.
He expressed confidence that the new passenger terminal will be completed next month, citing the port’s importance in serving the region’s growing transport needs.
The Port of Lucena handles approximately 500,000 passengers annually and serves as a major gateway connecting Quezon Province mainland Luzon with the island provinces of Marinduque, Masbate, and Romblon.
Located in Barangay Talao-Talao, Lucena City, the port serves domestic passenger and cargo vessels.
Funded through the Philippine Ports Authority’s (PPA) corporate budget, the P153.43-million project includes a 1,268.19-square-meter pre-departure area with seating capacity for 928 passengers, ticketing counters, a terminal fee booth, nursing and prayer rooms, and a 100-kilowatt solar panel system.
PPA said the port modernization is part of the government’s broader infrastructure program aimed at strengthening regional connectivity, facilitating trade and tourism, and providing safer, faster, and more convenient travel for the public.

The President also said the terminal upgrade is intended to improve passenger convenience and comfort, particularly by providing temporary shelter for travelers when sea voyages are suspended due to bad weather.
