The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and Epson Precision Philippines Inc. (EPPI) have signed an agreement allowing Epson to expand its Batangas operations into industrial robotics manufacturing.

PEZA director general Tereso Panga and EPPI chairman and president Yushi Irie signed the supplemental agreement on August 13, 2026, covering Epson’s new manufacturing project at the Lima Technology Center-Special Economic Zone in Batangas.

The agreement expands Epson’s registered activities to include the manufacture of various industrial robots, including Selective Compliant Articulated Robot Arm (SCARA) and 6-axis models, as well as component parts, sub-assemblies for knock-down production, spare parts and after-sales service parts.

The project represents an investment of more than P40 million and is expected to generate an average workforce of 118 employees. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in March 2027.

“Epson has been part of the PEZA family since 1995, and today we welcome them into an entirely new chapter of reinventing itself and moving up the value chain — from precision printing to precision robotics. This is the kind of growth we want every locator to aspire to: continuously advancing, innovating, and finding new ways to compete globally,” said Panga.

Epson’s 31-year presence in PEZA reflects Japanese companies’ long-term confidence in the Philippines as an investment destination and the company’s commitment to producing innovative, high-quality products, PEZA said.

The addition of robotics manufacturing also demonstrates how sustained investments can expand business activities, enhance customer value, create quality jobs and contribute to the country’s economic development, the agency highlighted.

Epson is the leading SCARA robot manufacturer and leading in precision automation. PEZA stated that the new EPPI project will further integrate the Philippines into its global robotics supply chain.

The economic zone agency said the project highlights the Philippines’ potential as an advanced manufacturing hub amid automation and Industry 4.0 reshaping global production. It also emphasizes PEZA’s role in helping locators enter higher-value, future-ready industries.
