The new 7.88-kilometer stretch of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) was inaugurated on May 4, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The CALAX Subsection 3 extends the toll road from Silang (Aguinaldo) to the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias, operator MPCALA Holdings Inc. said in statement.
The newly opened segment is expected to ease congestion and reduce travel time between Biñan and General Trias to around 26 minutes from about one hour, strengthening connectivity across southern Luzon.
Designed to accommodate an additional 6,000 motorists daily, Subsection 3 provides an alternative route that bypasses heavily congested local roads in Cavite’s expanding industrial and residential corridors.
With the recent opening, CALAX’s operational length now extends 26 kilometers from Mamplasan Entry in Biñan, Laguna.
The subsection will be free for all vehicle classes for the first month of operations. Motorists traveling on CALAX Subsections 4 to 8 — covering the Mamplasan to Silang (Aguinaldo) stretch- will continue to pay existing toll rates. The Toll Regulatory Board is expected to announce further updates in coordination with CALAX management.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone toward completing the full 44.6-kilometer CALAX corridor, which will eventually connect the Manila-Cavite Expressway in Kawit to the South Luzon Expressway in Mamplasan through eight interchanges: Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa Tagaytay, Silang East, Silang (Aguinaldo), Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit.
Once the entire alignment is completed and integrated with CAVITEX, the combined network is projected to handle up to 95,000 vehicles daily, functioning as a regional arterial backbone for trade and mobility across South Luzon.
MPCALA Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, the toll road division of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, handles CALAX under a concession agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways.
