The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) join the global maritime community in recognizing the vital role of the maritime sector in the economy, communities, and the daily lives of millions of Filipinos during this year’s celebration of the 27th National Maritime Week (NMW).
This year’s theme of “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence” highlights “the importance of translating our shared commitments for the maritime sector into concrete actions and meaningful outcomes,” according to MARINA Management, Financial and Administrative Service director Marivic Ramos during a press briefing on September 21.

PCG Civil Relations Service commandant Roben de Guzman said they remain committed to building a safer, cleaner, more secure, resilient, and sustainable Philippine maritime industry.
For PCG, this year’s theme means “safer seas and protected lives, cleaner marine environment, and stronger maritime security, more resilient coastal and port communities, and capable, professional, modern, and responsive Coast Guard.”
PPA spokesperson Eunice Samonte, for her part, said the ports authority commits to continuous coordination and cooperation with partner maritime agencies.
The theme for this year is also in line with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) theme for the celebration of the World Maritime Day for 2026 and 2027. For the first time, the theme will run for two years, highlighting IMO’s commitment to put policies into practice, by providing technical assistance, training and other essential services.

For this year’s celebration of the NMW, the three government agencies and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have prepared a series of activities from September 20-27 designed to raise public awareness, promote appreciation for the country’s maritime heritage and industry, and highlight the people and institutions that keep the maritime sector moving.
The activities also aim to bring the maritime sector closer to the public–from programs that recognize the contributions of maritime workers and stakeholders, to initiatives that promote maritime awareness, safety, sustainability, and excellence, Ramos added.
Activities include the following:
- September 20 – Holy Mass and Ecumenical Memorial Rites
- September 21 – Dressing up of ships and simultaneous blowing of ships’ horn
- September 22 – Blood Donation Program, Women in Maritime Forum
- September 22-23 – Philippine Maritime Convention
- September 23 – Passenger Open Ship tour, Harana Para sa Marino and Boses ng Marino NCR auditions
- September 23-24 – International Workshop – Port, SHipping, and People: Safety and Competencies in the Decarbonization Era
- September 23-25 – MARINO World Manning Expo Conference and Job Fair
- September 24 – National Seafarer’s Day & World Maritime Day/IMO Day, and Appreciation Night
- September 25 – Tree planting
- September 26 – Oratorical and Boses ng Marino student category
- September 27 – Culmination program, including Grand Parade/Parade of Colors, Eucharistic Mass, Boses ng Marino Karaoke Challenge grand finals, and Passing of Torch for next year’s NMW celebration from MARINA-DMW to PCG
