PH chicken imports peak in Q4 as EU shipments climb 63%
  • The Philippines imported 173,200 tonnes of chicken meat in the fourth quarter of 2025, its highest quarterly volume that year
  • Fourth-quarter imports were 39.1% higher than a year earlier and made up almost a third of 2025’s 545,700-tonne total
  • EU poultry exports to the Philippines rose more than 63% to about 67,300 tonnes in 2025

Philippine chicken meat imports peak in the last three months of the year, as demand rises ahead of the holidays, government data show.

The Philippines imported 173,200 tonnes of chicken meat in the fourth quarter of 2025, the highest quarterly volume that year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The figure was 39.1% higher than in the same period of 2024.

For the whole of 2025, chicken meat imports reached 545,700 tonnes. Almost a third of that volume arrived in the final quarter.

The European Union (EU) is one of the country’s poultry sources. European Commission data show the EU exported about 67,300 tonnes of poultry meat to the Philippines in 2025, up more than 63% from the previous year.

The figures were released by the EU co-funded campaign “European Poultry – From Our Farms to Your Tables,” which promotes European poultry in the Philippines.

The campaign said EU poultry production is governed by common rules covering rearing, slaughter, processing and distribution, including food safety, hygiene, animal welfare and the use of veterinary medicines. Official controls verify compliance.

EU food businesses must also keep records that trace who supplied their products and to whom they were sold. EU rules ban the use of antimicrobials, including antibiotics, to promote growth, and allow preventive use only in exceptional cases.

The Philippines has its own National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance 2024–2028, which takes a “One Health” approach linking human, animal and environmental health.

For importers and distributors, the campaign said, information on product origin, documentation and veterinary requirements is an essential part of international food trade.
