Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp. (PSACC) has deployed its first brand-new container vessel, Span Asia Go 200, on the Manila-Cebu-Davao-Manila route, marking a milestone in the domestic shipping company’s fleet modernization program.
The launch comes as PSACC steps up its investments in shipping capacity to support cargo movement across major Philippine ports.
The vessel, with a capacity of 398 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), is the first ship built specifically for PSACC in its 53-year history. Its addition brings the company’s fleet to 18 vessels, making it the country’s largest containerized fleet, according to the company.
“In our 53-year history, Span Asia Go 200 marks a proud and historic milestone as the first brand-new ship built for Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp.,” PSACC said in its announcement on LinkedIn.
The company added that the vessel’s maiden voyage reflects its commitment to customers relying on its cargo shipping services.
“We are blessing a new chapter of PSACC. For the first time in our history, we welcome a ship built for us and built for the future we believe the Span Asia Carrier customer deserves,” PSACC president and chief executive officer Jordan Go said during the vessel’s blessing and launch in late September.
The Span Asia Go 200 features a forward bridge configuration and an open-hatch design, along with electric cranes intended to improve cargo-handling efficiency. PSACC said the vessel was designed with the requirements of the Philippine domestic trade in mind.
The ship is part of the company’s fleet modernization program launched in 2023. PSACC earlier told PortCalls that it intends to acquire additional vessels in the coming years.
The Manila-Cebu-Davao service links major commercial centers in Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, providing a maritime route for cargo moving between the country’s principal island groups.
PSACC said its broader goal is to strengthen its role as a cargo logistics solutions provider by building customer trust, delivering value and supporting clients’ business growth.
“We believe our success will be measured by the success of the customers we serve,” the company said.
