Sumifru (Philippines) Corp. has shipped its first consignment of fresh Hass avocados to South Korea, marking a new export market for Philippine-grown avocados, the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) announced.
The shipment consisted of 502 cartons with a total net weight of 3,069 kilograms, sourced from the barangay of Capitan Juan in Lantapan, Bukidnon.
The consignment, consigned to Sumifru Korea Co., departed Davao City on September 7 and is expected to arrive at the Port of Pyeongtaek in South Korea on September 13.
The shipment was covered by Phytosanitary Certificate No. 671707, issued in accordance with plant quarantine and phytosanitary requirements for fresh Hass avocado exports to South Korea.
The Plant Quarantine Service-Davao supervised the packing, inspection, and loading operations prior to shipment to verify the identity and condition of the produce, as well as its packaging and compliance with Korean phytosanitary requirements.

Sumifru Philippines held an inauguration and blessing ceremony on September 7 at the AJMR Compound in Tibungco, Davao City, to mark the export milestone.
The ceremony was attended by Sumifru chief operating officer Alberto Bacani, compliance department head Melvin Languido, PQS Davao regional manager Flor de Hasmin Bayo, and Sumifru employees and workers involved in the export initiative.
BPI said the first shipment demonstrates the ability of Philippine growers and exporters to meet international phytosanitary standards and access overseas markets.
Expanded access to the Korean market could provide additional opportunities for local avocado growers, producers and exporters, while encouraging improvements in production, post-harvest handling and quality management.
