PTT Philippines was cited as a platform for expanding Thai business presence in the region
A delegation of Thai business leaders led by Thai ambassador to the Philippines Makawadee Sumitmor recently visited the Subic Bay Freeport to explore investment opportunities, underscoring growing interest in the economic zone as a strategic gateway for trade and industry under the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC).
The delegation was received by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman and administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño, who highlighted the Freeport’s strategic location within the LEC and its potential as a hub for trade, manufacturing, and investment, SBMA announced.
Members of the Thai delegation met on July 26 with SBMA’s Business and Investment Group officials to discuss possible areas of collaboration and investment in the Freeport.
Sumitmor said Thai companies see strong investment prospects in the Philippines, particularly in energy, logistics, technology, digital innovation, and service-related industries. Representatives from the Thai Embassy, the business delegation, and PTT Philippines Corp. also “expressed optimism” over expanding future partnerships.
The delegation toured key facilities and locators within the freeport to identify strategic investment opportunities linked to the economic corridor.

SBMA said PTT Philippines Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Thailand’s PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Co. Ltd., provides a solid foundation for expanding Thai business ventures in the region.
The agency noted that the Subic Bay Freeport serves as the western maritime gateway of the LEC, connecting the major economic centers of Subic, Clark, Manila, and Batangas through planned infrastructure and logistics investments.
Thailand is actively seeking opportunities in trade, logistics, and manufacturing in the corridor. Subic’s close proximity, only three to four days by sea, provides logistical benefits for companies looking to grow their regional operations.
SBMA said Thai investments, led by PTT Philippines, enhance the freeport’s role in energy, logistics, and manufacturing, strengthening Thailand-Philippines economic ties.
