Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports has reaffirmed its commitment to Laguindingan’s long-term development after municipal leaders recently unveiled the Laguindingan Masterplan 2050, a 25-year roadmap aimed at strengthening the town’s role as an emerging hub in Northern Mindanao.
The plan was presented by municipal mayor Roy Macua during his State of the Municipality Address at the 63rd Araw ng Laguindingan celebration. It sets out strategies to align infrastructure development, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and governance reforms over the next two and a half decades.
As operator of Laguindingan International Airport (LIA), Aboitiz InfraCapital Laguindingan Airport Corporation (ALAC) said it welcomed the municipality’s long-term vision, citing the airport’s role in supporting tourism, trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
During the same event, ALAC received a plaque of appreciation from the municipal government in recognition of its timely tax compliance, placing it among Laguindingan’s top business establishments for 2026.
Since assuming operations at LIA in 2025, Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports has implemented a series of upgrades, including terminal enhancements, improved passenger facilities, better wayfinding, expanded customer assistance services, and specialized international training for technical staff.

The company said these measures are part of a broader modernization program intended to improve the airport experience while building capacity for rising passenger traffic and regional economic activity.
Additional upgrades are planned in the coming years, including further terminal improvements, modernized airport systems, expanded commercial areas, and digital innovations to boost efficiency and prepare the airport for future growth.
Local officials said the Masterplan 2050 is a collaborative effort involving the local government, national agencies, the private sector, and the community. Aboitiz InfraCapital said LIA’s continued modernization complements that vision by strengthening Northern Mindanao’s connectivity and improving access to economic opportunities across the region.
The company said it will continue coordinating with the Department of Transportation, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, and the municipal government of Laguindingan to support initiatives benefiting travelers and local communities.
LIA serves as the main gateway to Northern Mindanao, connecting Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and Bukidnon to key domestic and international destinations. The airport is fully owned and managed by Aboitiz InfraCapital, the Aboitiz Group’s infrastructure investment platform founded in 2015, which also operates assets in water and wastewater and digital infrastructure.
LIA opened in June 2013, replacing the old Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro City. It serves as a vital regional hub that promotes trade, tourism, and economic growth throughout Mindanao.
