Industrial infrastructure giant AG&P is considering manufacturing activities at the proposed Bicol Region Economic Zone (BREZ) that will be located in Albay province.

AG&P executives and officials from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) recently conducted a site inspection of the planned site.

The proposed BREZ, which would be a PEZA-owned greenfield development, is intended to leverage the existing Pantao Port as a primary logistics hub, PEZA said in a press release.

The project is currently awaiting official proclamation by the Office of the President to begin hosting industrial locators.

To move the project forward, PEZA is finalizing documentary requirements under Republic Act 7916. This process requires clearances from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and the National Water Resources Board (NWRB).

Legislative support has also been formalized through House Resolution No. 633, introduced by Rep. Adrian Salceda. The resolution, adopted by the House of Representatives, urges relevant agencies to fast-track the approvals necessary for the zone’s proclamation.

During the inspection, officials led by PEZA director general Tereso Panga and AG&P chairman Roberto Juanchito Dispo, including a technical team from AG&P India and Germany, met with local officials who expressed support to the ecozone.

AG&P is looking at the area as a potential location for its industrial and modular infrastructure activities.

PEZA is also exploring energy solutions for the zone, including discussions with AG&P regarding modular LNG technology and potential collaborations with the Philippine National Oil Company and Indonesia’s Pertamina for embedded power generation.

AG&P, a long-time PEZA locator and ecozone developer, currently has cumulative investments in the Philippines worth over P8 billion and employs approximately 1,200 engineers and technicians.

If the BREZ project proceeds, it is expected to create local employment and provide regional small and medium enterprises with access to global supply chains.

The development plan for BREZ follows the Eco-Industrial Park Framework, which aims to create a climate-resilient and technologically integrated industrial hub in the region.
