The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Iloilo met with representatives of the Visayas Container Terminal (VCT) to discuss the pilot implementation of an integrated online release system and VCT System, scheduled to commence this July, the agency said.

The integrated system is expected to enhance trade facilitation, reduce processing time, improve service delivery, and support the smooth movement of goods through the Port of Iloilo. It is also expected to help businesses receive their shipments more quickly, contributing to economic activity in the Western Visayas region.

The port said the initiative is guided by Customs commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno’s Integrity, Accountability and Modernization (IAM) reform program and is being carried out under the leadership of district collector Noli Santua, Jr.

The digital release system rollout follows VCT’s recent expansion of its global shipping network. Last month, VCT welcomed the inaugural call of Maersk’s PH6 service at the Port of Iloilo.

With the new service, VCT, a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), now offers customers in Panay and the wider Western Visayas region direct access to key trade hubs including Yantian, China, and Hong Kong, connecting to major global markets across the Asia Pacific, the United States, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.

Importers and exporters can leverage the service’s optimized transit times to lower their logistics costs, ICTSI said.
