Air cargo handled by local airlines 139.782 million kilograms (kg) in the first six months of the year, a slight improvement of 0.9% from the 138.532 million kg recorded in the same period last year, according to data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
Of the nine reporting airlines, six recorded declines in volumes, two saw improvement, while one had no comparative figure.
Cebu Pacific continued to post the biggest volume for the period, accounting for 48.9% of the total or 68.299 million kg, a 9% increase from the 62.662 million kg it flew last year.
Remaining in second place was PAL Express, which carried 40.533 million kg, 29% of the total and 5.6% down from the 42.942 million kg it handled last year.
Philippine Airlines likewise kept its spot at third with 17.698 million kg or a share of 12.7%. The flag carrier’s figure was also a 4% decrease from the 18.433 million kg it recorded last year.

Still in fourth was AirAsia Philippines, which shared 5.8% or 8.077 million kg, a 7.8% decline from 8.762 million kg last year.
Charter airline Island Aviation climbed up one rank to fifth with 1.625 million kg or 1.2% of the total. This was slightly higher by 0.4% from the 1.619 million that Island Aviation handled last year.
Royal Air Charter Services Inc. placed sixth with 1.464 million kg or a 1% share to total. The airline had no comparative figure for the first half of last year.
All-cargo airline Seair International remained in seventh place with a share of 0.9% or 1.224 million kg, 2% lower than 1.248 million kg last year.
Cebgo remained in eight place with 747,492 kg, down 5.9% from the 794,209 kg it flew last year.
Boutique airline AirSwift Transport Inc., which Cebu Pacific acquired last year, dropped four ranks to ninth with 115,576 kg, a huge 94.4% decrease from the 2.071 million kg it posted last year.— Roumina Pablo
