FedEx Corp. may need to expand its Clark Gateway Hub in Pampanga again soon after its current expansion is completed, if its growth in the Philippines keeps up, a top company official told President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

FedEx Airline and International President and CEO Richard W. Smith made the remark during a meet and greet with Marcos in Singapore, on the sidelines of the President’s attendance at the Forbes Global CEO Conference, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on October 8.

“The Philippines is doing everything right,” Smith said.

FedEx officials thanked Marcos for the government’s support as both sides discussed the company’s rapid growth in the country, now at close to 40 flights a week, and the Philippines’ bid to become a regional logistics hub.

Clark hub to grow more than fourfold

FedEx operates two main facilities in the country: the Clark Gateway Hub at Clark International Airport and the Manila Gateway at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

The Clark hub opened in 2021 as a 17,000-square-meter facility and serves as FedEx’s central clearing and routing hub for international air freight moving in and out of the Philippines.

In May 2026, FedEx broke ground on an expansion that will scale the facility to over 78,000 square meters, more than four times its original size. The project will sharply boost sorting capacity, package handling speed, and cold-chain and specialized freight handling for high-value exports.

Set to open in the fourth quarter of 2028, the expanded hub will significantly raise capacity for international air freight and specialized cargo and help Philippine micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) reach global markets.

Beyond package handling, FedEx also runs an APAC Trade Facilitation Center in Clark. The regional unit handles administrative tasks, customs clearance documentation, data management and profile matching for key Asia Pacific markets.

From ‘Clark 2.0’ to today

Marcos first met FedEx leadership on November 15, 2023, on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, where they discussed the company’s proposed US$180 million “Clark 2.0” expansion plan aimed at positioning the Philippines as an international logistics hub.

FedEx is a US-headquartered company offering transportation, e-commerce and business services. Its Asia Pacific headquarters is in Singapore, with business units covering supply chain management, customs brokerage, trade facilitation and e-commerce solutions. It operates an air and ground network across more than 220 countries and territories and employs over 500,000 people worldwide.
