South Korean carrier HMM announced that it has secured top ratings from two of the world’s leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) evaluation bodies for the third consecutive year, reaffirming its position as the most highly rated shipping company on global sustainability metrics.
HMM earned the Platinum medal from EcoVadis in 2026 — given only to the top 1% of assessed companies — with a score of 91 out of 100, improving from 87 the previous year. The carrier recorded 95 points in the environment category and registered improved marks in ethics, achieving top-1% standings across all evaluated areas.
Separately, HMM retained a “Low Risk” rating in the Sustainalytics ESG Risk Rating, an assessment widely used as a benchmark by global institutional investors, and ranked among the top shipping companies globally for the third year running.
Its Sustainalytics score improved to 12.7 from 13.6 the prior year, a gain, as lower scores indicate reduced ESG risk. The carrier received ratings of “Negligible” or “Low Risk” in most of the seven categories assessed.
An HMM official said the back-to-back recognition across both platforms marked a significant achievement for the company, according to a media release.
“Maintaining the highest ratings for three consecutive years in both global ESG evaluations is a significant milestone. We remain committed to solidifying ESG management across all of our business areas,” the official said.
