Mindanao International Container Terminal Services Inc. (MICTSI) plans to install an additional 180 reefer plugs in 2027, expanding its refrigerated-container capacity which currently has 261 plug-in generators.
The expansion is part of the ongoing berth, equipment and infrastructure improvements being undertaken by MICTSI – a unit of listed firm International Container Terminal, Services, Inc. – aimed at increasing cargo-handling capacity and improving terminal efficiency as trade activity in Northern Mindanao grows.
The additional equipment serves reefer containers carrying both import and export cargo at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Cagayan de Oro announced the developments following a site visit by District collector Arnaldo Saulong of the BOC-Collection District X and MCT subport collector Engr. Elvin Maurice Mackay on August 25, 2026.
MICTSI general manager Aurelio Garcia and terminal manager Atty. Gemma Gloria briefed the BOC officials on terminal operations, system enhancements and infrastructure projects being undertaken to improve cargo handling and expand capacity.
MICTSI secured a 25-year extension to operate and manage MCT from the PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority, bringing its contract to 2063.
ICTSI earlier announced that it plans to invest over $100 million to extend the berth from 300 to 600 meters, build support infrastructure, and buy more equipment to boost capacity from 350,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
The MCT hit a milestone in December 2025 with its handling of more than 300,000 TEUs, the highest annual throughput in the terminal’s history.
The record-setting container was discharged on December 26 from the CMA CGM vessel ASL Hong Kong.
Saulong said the terminal’s improvements complement the BOC’s efforts to promote Northern Mindanao’s ports as strategic gateways for international trade and encourage investors to tap the region’s expanding logistics and trade infrastructure.
He emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation between the BOC and private sector stakeholders in maintaining efficient port operations, facilitating legitimate trade and supporting regional economic growth.
