The logistics sector is reporting improved delivery reliability and operational efficiency following the opening of the CAVITEX C5 link segment 3B, with industry players citing faster turnaround times and better fleet utilization amid challenging market conditions.
The opening of Segment 3B, the final piece of the 7.7-kilometer CAVITEX C5 Link, has handed freight operators a direct expressway connection between the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and C5 Road in Taguig, bypassing the congested urban corridors.
Industry stakeholders said the new expressway segment provides an advantage by allowing cargo operators to bypass heavily congested urban routes, improving supply chain reliability and delivery predictability.
“The opening of the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 3B eases up our daily transport movements, helping us keep up our delivery timelines and optimize our resources,” Doris Torres, executive director of the Philippine Multimodal Transport and Logistics Association, Inc. (PMTLAI), said in a statement. “We welcome infrastructure that eventually reduces the total cost of logistics in the country.”
Logistics operators said the expressway has significantly shortened travel time, with trips previously taking up to 1.5 hours now completed in as little as 15 minutes, enabling more predictable scheduling and improved operational efficiency.
On a fleet-wide scale, the improvements are noticeable.
Arlyn Abello, an account manager at Premier Global Logistics Corp., said better traffic flow has enhanced overall service performance.
“It has helped enhance the efficiency of our deliveries, allowing us to better meet our schedules and improve overall service reliability,” Abello said.
Llalaksmi Freight Services Inc. pointed to a significant benefit: driver welfare and the expressway enable the company to avoid congested inner roads, resulting in lower fuel consumption and fewer delays.
“It helps reduce delays, fuel consumption, and overall stress for our drivers, which is a big factor in keeping operations smooth. Because of this, we’re able to serve our clients more efficiently, particularly for time-sensitive shipments,” the company said.
The expressway is not yet operating at full design capacity. A portion of Segment 3B is currently operating under a modified two-lane configuration in each direction while outstanding right-of-way concerns are being resolved.
The completed project is designed for six lanes with a 2×2 service road, meaning the efficiency gains already being reported by operators could widen further once full capacity is unlocked.
The CAVITEX C5 Link is a joint venture between Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, and the Philippine Reclamation Authority, and is operated by the PEA Tollway Corporation.
