Philippine Airlines (PAL) is joining the oneworld Alliance, boosting the flag-carrier’s global presence while expanding the air carrier network’s southeast Asia representation.

The official announcement was made at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to a PAL news release.

The Philippine flag carrier will join the alliance as its 16th full member and is the second from Southeast Asia.

The entry grants PAL passengers access to a global network spanning nearly 1,000 destinations across more than 170 countries and territories, while giving oneworld a significantly stronger footprint across the Philippine domestic market and the broader Southeast Asian region.

“This is a defining and transformative moment for Philippine Airlines,” said PAL Holdings, Inc. president Lucio Tan III. “Becoming a member of the oneworld Alliance and strengthening Southeast Asia’s representation within the group significantly brings the Philippines and the region closer to the world like never before. Together with our partners, we will deliver greater choice, consistent journeys, and a world-class travel experience that reflects the warmth of Filipino hospitality.”

For oneworld, the addition fills a gap in its Southeast Asian coverage. PAL’s large domestic network, 29 destinations within the Philippines, along with 40 international routes from Manila and Cebu hubs, provides the alliance with crucial new connections to a previously limited market for a full-service network.

“PAL’s entry into oneworld supports our long-term strategic growth and strengthens our connectivity across key markets in the Asia Pacific region,” said Robert Isom, American Airlines chief executive and chairman of the oneworld Governing Board. “The airline has a proud heritage and will serve a critical role in our Southeast Asia network.”

Ole Orvér, oneworld chief executive, recognized PAL as “a globally respected carrier with a strong commitment to innovation and customer service that aligns with oneworld’s reputation for delivering a premium experience across the travel journey.”

PAL’s decision to join the alliance, he added, “is an endorsement of oneworld, and its global customer offering. We look forward to welcoming Philippine Airlines into the alliance.”

The membership offers benefits for PAL’s frequent flyers. Mabuhay Miles members will be able to earn and redeem miles across all oneworld carriers. Top-tier PAL customers will qualify for oneworld Priority privileges, including access to more than 700 premium airport lounges worldwide. Eligible passengers will also unlock access to First Class lounges and dedicated First Class check-in areas across the alliance network.

For travelers, the alliance membership offers smoother connections, more schedule options, and consistent premium service standards across all oneworld carriers.

The alliance presently comprises these member airlines:

  • Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines
  • American Airlines, British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Fiji Airways
  • Finnair
  • Iberia
  • Japan Airlines
  • Malaysia Airlines
  • Oman Air
  • Qantas
  • Qatar Airways
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Royal Jordanian
  • SriLankan Airlines

Founded in 1941, PAL is Asia’s first commercial airline and the sole full-service network carrier in the Philippines. It is ranked as an APEX Four Star airline and was acknowledged by Cirium for having the best on-time performance among Asia-Pacific carriers in 2025.
