Bureau of Customs (BOC) agents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted approximately 1,234 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, on May 19, 2026.

The contraband, valued at an estimated P8.38 million, was discovered during a physical inspection of an abandoned shipment at an airport warehouse.

The BOC-NAIA, led by district collector Yasmin Obillos-Mapa, reported that the shipment arrived in the country in March 2026, originating from Uganda. It was addressed to a recipient in Cavite and declared as “Auto Gear Bearings (Parts for Machines).”

Authorities found the illegal drugs concealed within the two packages designated as machinery parts.

The seized narcotics have been turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for laboratory analysis and the filing of appropriate charges.

Customs commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the operation aligns with the national government’s directives to intensify anti-smuggling efforts and curb the entry of illegal substances through the country’s logistics facilities.
