The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) led the observance of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer on June 25, 2026, vowing continued and stronger support as it recognized the contributions of the country’s men and women who crew the vessels that move the world’s cargo.
The celebration was anchored on the theme “Carrying World Trade, Carrying the Risks,” underscoring the professional demands and personal sacrifices borne by Filipino seafarers serving aboard vessels worldwide.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in a video message, recognized Filipino seafarers as among the most respected and sought-after maritime professionals in the world.
“Through their skill and dedication, global trade flows smoothly, supply chains remain resilient, and economies thrive. Beyond keeping the world connected, they bring immense pride and honor to our nation,” Marcos said.

The President also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and promoting the welfare of Filipino workers, and called on all sectors to strengthen measures that uphold the safety, security, and continued growth of Filipino seafarers.
MARINA administrator Sonia Malaluan, in her welcoming remarks, cited the risks and challenges seafarers face while keeping global trade moving, framing the celebration as both a tribute and a call to action.
“This celebration is not only an opportunity to honor their contributions but also a call to action for all stakeholders. It reminds us of our collective responsibility to ensure that seafarers are protected, supported, and empowered throughout their careers,” Malaluan said. She also reaffirmed MARINA’s commitment to strengthening maritime education, training, certification, and seafarer welfare programs.
Messages were also delivered by Philippine Coast Guard commandant admiral Ronnie Gil Latorilla Gavan, Acting Labor secretary Francis N. Tolentino, Migrant Workers secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Acting Transportation secretary Giovanni Lopez, and International Maritime Organization secretary general Arsenio Dominguez.
