PSAA decided to rejoin FONASBA “to have a global status” and to advance global practices and international exposure for PSAA members
The Philippine Ship Agents Association (PSAA) welcomed representatives of the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents (FONASBA) in Manila following the local association’s rejoining of the global organization.
PSAA on April 20 hosted FONASBA president Fulvio Carlini and deputy regional vice president for Asia Therry van Vreden to reintroduce the global federation of national associations of ship brokers and agents.
PSAA was an associate member of FONASBA from 2013 up to 2019, and then rejoined as a full member in 2025.

The association said its Board decided to rejoin FONASBA “to have a global status since being a shipping agent is a global business”, as well as to advance global practices and international exposure for PSAA members. PSAA is the only member of FONASBA from the Philippines.
The group said its decision to rejoin FONASBA reflects why the federation exists, which is “to connect national associations into a structured global framework that provides professional recognition, common standards, and a collective voice where it matters.”
PSAA president Ricardo Jamandre earlier said the association this year will further strengthen its partnership with government agencies, port authorities, and international organizations; expand training programs; enhance knowledge-sharing platforms, and develop more initiatives that prepare members for the evolving challenges of the global maritime landscape.
FONASBA, founded in 1969, provides a united voice for the world’s ship brokers and agents. The organization promotes fair and equitable practices and maintains a close watch on all developments of interest and concern to the ship broking and ship agency professions and takes appropriate action to ensure that those interests are protected.
It also has consultative status at the International Maritime Organisation, United Nations Conference on Trade & Development, and the World Customs Organisation, and works closely with ship owning bodies, such as the International Chamber of Shipping, BIMCO, Intercargo, and Intertanko.
PSAA, founded on July 16, 1974, currently represents a membership of more than 40 ship agents.
