The negative impact of the Middle East situation was tempered by the recovery of freight rates starting late May due to the early onset of the peak season.
The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index averaged 1,957 points during the first half, 15% higher than the 1,701-point average during the same period last year.
HMM said their stable profitability amid market volatility was driven by fuel cost optimization, maximizing fleet efficiency through its ‘Hub & Spoke’ strategy and capturing new demand in Southeast Asia.
For the third quarter, the company sees market uncertainty due to supply chain risks like the new United States tariffs, port congestion and geopolitical conflicts.
For the long term, HMM continues to focus on investments to enhance future competitiveness and growth, with ₩10 trillion spent over the past 15 months and more lined up under its expanded ₩29 trillion mid-to-long-term strategy for 2030.
